Acoustic desk screens have a sound-absorbing core wrapped in acoustic fabric. Placed between desks, they soak up speech and call noise at source, before it spreads across the office. Clamp-on, slide-on or freestanding?

Clamp-on screens fix to the edge of the desk. Clamps come with screens such as Hush 50 and Edge Fabric 38, and Edge clamps suit desks 17 to 28mm thick, which covers most office desks. Slide-on dividers, like the Edge Fabric 38 slide-on desk divider, push onto the desk edge. Freestanding desk screens, like the Muffle 70 freestanding desk screen, stand on the desk without being fixed to it, so they are easy to move.

How many desk screens do you need?

Count the places where people face each other or sit side by side. On a bank of desks facing each other, you need one screen along the middle for each pair of desks. Add side screens between neighbours if you want more privacy. Match the screen width to the desk, for example a 1600mm screen for a 1600mm desk.

Taller screens give more privacy and absorb more sound. Pick a height that blocks eye contact when people are seated. Not sure?
